I have enjoyed living in North Roanoke for the past 30 years. I’m married and have four wonderful sons, two amazing daughters-in-law, and four adorable granddaughters and two adventurous grandsons. I also have three cats and two dogs. My Tinker Creek location is not a coincidence. I love the water and am a beach girl at heart.

Mark Martin, LPC, RPTS

Hello, my name is Mark Martin, and I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with 10 years of experience working with children (ages 3 and up), adolescents and families in a variety of settings. I specialize in working with anxiety, anger, autism, depression, grief/loss, ADD, ADHD, ODD, and LGBT issues. I am also a Registered Play Therapist Supervisor. I do utilize play therapy techniques in sessions (especially with the younger ones). I take a person center approach by active listening to clients and their needs and encouraging them to make the changes they desire. I also use a strengths based approach as well because everyone has strengths that can be built upon to make the changes that you want in life. I love being able to watch the growth and changes my clients make while succeeding.

In my spare time, I like to spend time with my partner, grilling out, cooking, antique shopping, reading, writing and going on cruises when I can.

I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) in Virginia and a Board-Certified Art Therapist (ATR-BC) serving within the local Roanoke Community. In August 2014, I earned my B.S. in Psychology from Roanoke College and, in January 2019, a M.A. in Counseling from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania with a dual concentration in Art Therapy and Clinical Mental Health Counseling. Within the past six years, I have worked with a variety of populations and individuals dealing with addiction, anxiety, co-occurring disorders, depression, grief, identity issues, life transitions, and traumatic experiences. In addition to my being a part of TCCC, I serve as the Director of Therapeutic Services with Anchored In Faith Together, Inc. (AIFT) where I offer counseling and various creative outlets to individuals impacted by breast cancer in the Roanoke Valley. Separately, I am a space holder within the practice of Yoga of 12 Step Recovery (Y12SR); however, I have had to step back during the past couple of years due to COVID.

My little Cockapoo, Maple, will be in the office with me most days as she is learning how to be a therapy dog and I hope you will be open to meeting her as well.

We all have different emotional experiences and sometimes it is difficult to navigate through life challenges when we think we are all alone. As a therapist from a framework of person-centered therapy, I will meet you where you are in the moment, which is the best place to start! My ultimate hope is to engage in a collaborative therapeutic alliance with each individual and couple, while encouraging one's self-efficacy, developing new coping skills, focusing on strengths, and discovering solutions to help them throughout their lives, whether it be for self-discovery, reconciling differences, and/or the overall healing process. With the help of Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, the maladaptive thoughts you may have repeating in your mind today can be reconciled over time which will help you to manage your reaction to stimuli after you integrate new thought patterns into your daily life. Please call to schedule an appointment, if you are ready to begin a new journey!
